Important Information

  • A 2 mL clotted blood sample is required for all five allergy screening profiles.
  • Allergy blood testing measures specific IgE antibodies associated with the allergens included in the selected profile. It can help identify sensitisation to certain foods, environmental substances, animals, moulds, dust mites, and other allergens.
  • A positive specific IgE result indicates sensitisation, but it does not always mean that exposure to the allergen will cause symptoms. Results should therefore be considered together with your symptoms, medical history, and pattern of exposure.
  • A negative result reduces the likelihood of an IgE-mediated reaction to the tested allergen, but it cannot exclude every type of allergy or intolerance.
  • A positive specific IgE result should not be used alone to decide which foods to avoid. Dietary changes, particularly for children, should be discussed with an appropriate healthcare professional.
  • A severe allergic reaction can be a medical emergency. If you develop difficulty breathing, throat swelling, fainting, or other severe symptoms, seek urgent medical care rather than waiting for allergy test results.
